Oakland, CA, May 31, 2007—Scientific Learning (NASDAQ:SCIL) today announced a major milestone in its eleven-year history: the millionth usage of its neuroscience-based Fast ForWord reading intervention software for grades K-12.
Since its first implementation in 1997, usage of Fast ForWord software has grown dramatically in schools around the world. According to Jane A. Freeman, Scientific Learning's Chief Financial Officer, "This is a great achievement. The millionth usage of our product demonstrates the breadth of the application for our Fast ForWord products and effectiveness of neuroscience principles as the basis for improving children's ability to learn."
Scientific Learning knew exactly when and where the millionth usage took place with its Progress Tracker, an online data analysis tool that measures Fast ForWord students' progress in real-time.
The Millionth Use took place in the Cumberland County School District in North Carolina, who will receive complimentary licenses for Fast ForWord products and/or support and services with a total value of $20,000.
Robert C. Bowen, the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Scientific Learning, summed up the moment by saying, "This is a good day for school children everywhere, as our products can raise reading scores an average of 1-2 years in just 8-12 weeks in combination with quality teaching and strong curriculum. The millionth usage award will be personally presented to the Cumberland County School District by CEO, Robert C. Bowen for immediate use.
