OAKLAND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Duval County Public Schools is expanding its use of Scientific Learning Corporation's (NASDAQ:SCIL - News) research-based Fast ForWord learning intervention software district-wide. The contract is valued at over $7 million.

"Fast ForWord was the missing link in our district instructional strategy. There is nothing available that does what Fast ForWord does - developing the underlying pre-requisite cognitive skills required to learn: memory, attention, processing, and sequencing," said Dr. Joseph Wise, Superintendent of Duval County Public Schools. "We have been extremely impressed with the Fast ForWord products following implementation; the results to date are significant, and in addition to academic gains, we are seeing notable improvements in classroom performance and students' engagement and self-confidence. We are thrilled to inspire more students to succeed and achieve their dreams through expanding our students' access to the Fast ForWord products."

The Fast ForWord family of products will help students across multiple grade levels develop the essential cognitive skills required to become successful learners. In particular, the district will use these proven interventions to accelerate learning for struggling students, English-language learners, and students preparing for college entrance exams.

"We are delighted to expand our work with Duval to help eliminate the student achievement gap," said Robert Bowen, Chairman and CEO of Scientific Learning. "Extending the Fast ForWord family of products district-wide affords many more students the opportunity to build learning capacity with the development of the cognitive skills required for successful reading and learning."
