OAKLAND, CA - 2/22/2007 - The Hattiesburg Public School District in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, has purchased site licenses for Scientific Learning Corporation's (NASDAQ:SCIL) Fast ForWord® neuroscience-based reading intervention. The products have been implemented for the 2006-2007 school year in all six of the district's elementary schools.
The decision to select the Fast ForWord Elementary product bundle, which includes Fast ForWord to Reading, Fast ForWord Language to Reading, and Fast ForWord Language Basics as well as other key products, came after district educators identified a need to improve test scores to meet state standards. After evaluating the success of the Fast ForWord intervention in other school districts, Hattiesburg administrators decided to purchase site licenses in the summer of 2006. The products were implemented for the 2006-2007 school year.
"After seeing how well students in other districts did using the Fast ForWord products, we decided to make them the foundation of an early-intervention literacy program in Hattiesburg," said Dr. Annie Wimbish, superintendent of the Hattiesburg Public School District. "We are eagerly developing solid long-term plans for the future of this district, and our vision for the upcoming years continues to include enhanced student achievement. We hope to see great benefits and improvements in student performance thanks to the use of the Fast ForWord products."
"We are very happy that the Hattiesburg Public School District has selected our Fast ForWord products to anchor its literacy program," said Robert C. Bowen, Chairman and CEO of Scientific Learning. "The Fast ForWord intervention is based on 30 years of neuroscience research and has been proven to create fast, effective, and enduring results in helping struggling learners improve the learning capacity essential to academic success. We are confident that the district will find the products to be a valuable and unique element of its literacy efforts."
