OAKLAND, CA - 2/19/2007 - Elementary-school students in School District 16 in New Brunswick, Canada made significant gains in their early reading skills after using Scientific Learning Corporation's (NASDAQ:SCIL) Fast ForWord® software intervention, according to a recent study.
On average, a group using Fast ForWord products made statistically significant improvements compared with a control group that did not use the products; their overall language scores moved from the 45th percentile to the 81st.
"The study results from New Brunswick reaffirm the scientific findings that use of the Fast ForWord products can quickly strengthen students' foundational cognitive skills, enabling them to improve their reading and learning skills," said Robert C. Bowen, Chairman and CEO of Scientific Learning.

Study participants included two groups of second-grade students -- one that used the Fast ForWord products during the 2005-2006 school year and a comparison group that did not use the Fast ForWord intervention. Both groups were evaluated with the Test of Auditory Comprehension of Language-Third Edition (TACL-3) before and after the study.
